【題目】 Many people see Vincent Van Gogh (文森特·梵高) as a great artist. But the Dutch painter’s life was filled with failures.

Van Gogh didn’t start painting until he was 27 or 28. But he had finished nearly 900 oil paintings by the time he died at 37. Born to a rich family in the Netherlands, Van Gogh once worked as an art dealer (藝術(shù)品商人), a teacher and a minister (牧師), but failed in all. He started to paint in 1880. In 1886, Van Gogh moved to Paris. Influenced by a number of impressionist artists (印象派畫家), Van Gogh began to use bright colors. He used them to express his feelings, which changed the direction of art forever.

However, people were not ready to accept his way of painting. Tired of his hard life in Paris, Van Gogh moved to Arles in southern France two years later. Although he made a number of works there, his serious depression (抑郁) led him to cut off the lower part of his left ear. American authors Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith said in 2011 that he was shot (槍擊) by two boys accidentally, according to the BBC.

Today, Van Gogh’s paintings sell for record-breaking prices. However, during his lifetime, he sold only one picture called the Red Vineyard.

【題目】 French doctors and American scientists have reported doing an operation in which the doctor was outside the operating room. This kind of operation is known as robotic operation.

Doctor Marescaux did the operation in an office in New York City last month, while a sixty-eight-year-old woman patient was in a hospital in Strasbourg, France.

A doctor in Strasbourg got the patient ready. He placed medical tools and a small video camera in her stomach area. Doctor Marescaux in New York watched the patient on a video screen. Then he used the computer to send messages to the robot machine. The robot moved the tools that cut the woman's gallbladder (膽囊) away. The woman got well soon after the operation and left the hospital two days later.

Experts say the main problem with such a robotic operation is based on high-speed telecommunications between the doctor and the robot. Technology must be able to send a doctor's order to a robot to move the tools quickly.

Experts also say a successful robotic operation will improve an operation. For example, the robot can make much smaller movements than a person can. A robot machine can turn tools in ways that a doctor's hand cannot.

Doctors say such a robotic operation will make safer and better operations possible in the future. They say it will improve doctor training. It will also mean that doctors could do an operation on people in dangerous places far away. And it could mean that people could have operations done by top doctors without having to travel to the city where doctors work.

1"Robotic operation" means "___________".

A.an operation done with the help of a robotB.an operation done far away

C.a special kind of robot invented by doctorsD.something done to mend a robot

2We use the robot in the operation because __________.

A.even a top doctor can't do the operation himselfB.it can send messages at a high speed

C.operations can be done without any doctorsD.it can make the operation safer and better

3If we want to use the robot in the operation, we must solve the problem of __________.

A.high-speed telecommunicationsB.top doctors

C.doctor trainingD.smaller movements

4If the smaller movement can't be done by doctors in the operation, we may use __________ to solve it.

A.telecommunicationsB.a video cameraC.a robot machineD.more tools

5Which of the following is NOT true?

A.Experts speak highly of robotic operation.B.The robot is used to watch the patient clearly.

C.Robotic operation is good for doctor training.D.Robotic operation has been used in the USA.
