Research has shown that motivation is very important in learning a language; you need to be enthusiastic about it, and to be interested in it. Different people will have different motives-the desire for promotion, the hope of being able to study abroad, curiosity about a very different culture, and pure intellectual enjoyment are only some of the possible motives. But actually wanting to learn is the most important motive of all.
Courage is an essential attribute in learning a language. It takes a lot of courage to speak a foreign language either in front of your friends or to native speakers, but don’t be afraid of making mistakes-that is the way we learn. Nowadays there are many different forms of English, each with its own constructions and accent, and, so long as you can make yourself understood and can understand what is said to you, you have succeeded in communicating, which is the purpose of any language.
Curiosity is not only a possible motivation, it is also a great help in your learning. Remember that a language is not just a grammatical system, it is the outcome of a certain culture or different cultures. It is no good learning strings of words and lists of grammatical rules unless you know as much as possible, about the background of the language, so that you can understand the ideas which are being conveyed, the references which are being made, the inferences which can be drown from the information explicitly given. So learn as much as you can about the different cultures which influence English-watch television programs, listen to the radio, try to obtain newspapers and magazines: which are written by native speakers, look at advertisements, and above all, read-not textbooks, but novels and poems and plays. The will show you how language is really used. The English language is not an abstract system; it is a living form of expression which derives much of its meaning from the context in which it is used , and much of its effect from a whole network of extralinguistic knowledge.

If parents bring up a child with the aim of turning the child a genius, they will cause great damage to him.According to several leading educational psychologists, this is one of the biggest mistakes which some parents make.Generally, the child will understand very well what the parent expects, and will fail.Unrealistic parental expectations can cause great damage to children.

Michael's friend, Winston Chen, however, is not so lucky.Although both his parents are successful musicians, they set too high a standard for Winston. They want their son to be as successful as they are and so they enter him in every piano competition held. They are very unhappy when he does not win.“When I was your age, I used to win every competition I entered.” Winston's father tells him.Winston is always afraid that he will disappoint his parents and now he always seems quiet and unhappy.

Mistakes are a part of life. To err is human. Failure is also a part of life, not the end of life. Be happy facing life’s challenges. When you make the effort to be happy and to improve your life, you are actually rewarded along the way.
Life is like a game and maybe you can award points for every effort that has been a success for you. Try it. Add ten points for every achievement. And when you have reached 50 points, just yell, “Hey, I’ve won!” and give yourself a reward. If you happen to have missed your points for whatever reason, tell yourself, “Well, I tried!” which is better than not trying at all. Don’t let it be said you didn’t try.
What is it that you want to make yourself happy? Actually happiness means different things to different people. For example, an athlete will be happy winning his first race. For a new mother happiness would be seeing her baby’s first steps. Happiness for a poor person would mean having a meal just for today. So happiness for you is really something simple that you want for yourself.
It really doesn’t have to be big. As a matter of fact, you should be always realistic(現(xiàn)實(shí)的). Make the best out of every given situation. If you expect a certain result from a situation and it does not happen, don’t get despondent. This just means trying harder next time. We all have in us the power to succeed. Don’t let “give up” be a part of your vocabulary.
