When I was nine years old, I loved to go fishing with my dad. But the only thing that wasn’t very fun about it was that he could catch many fish while I couldn’t catch anything. I usually got pretty upset(心煩的) and kept asking him why. He always answered, “Son, if you want to catch a fish, you have to think like a fish”, I remember being even more upset then because, “I’m not a fish!” I didn’t know how to think like a fish. Besides, I reasoned, how could what I think influence what a fish does.
As I got a little older I began to understand what my dad really meant. So, I read some books on fish. And I even joined the local fishing club and started attending the monthly meetings. I learned that a fish is a cold-blooded(冷血的)animal and therefore is very sensitive(敏感的) to water temperature. That is why fish prefer shallow water to deep water because the former is warmer. Besides, water is usually warmer in direct sunlight than in the shade(陰涼處). Yet, fish don’ t have any eyelids(眼皮) and the sun hurts their eyes. The more I understood fish, the more I became effective at finding and catching them.
When I grew up and entered the business world, I remember hearing my first boss say, “We all need to think like sales people.” But it didn’t completely make sense. My dad never once said, “If you want to catch a fish you need to think like a fisherman.” What he said was, “You need to think like a fish.” Years later, with great efforts to promote long-term services to people much older and richer than me, I gradually learned what we all need is to think more like customers. It is not an easy job. I will show you how in the following chapters.
1.Why was the author upset in fishing trips when he was nine?
A. He could not catch a fish.
B. His father was not patient with him.
C. His father did not teach him fishing.
D. He could not influence a fish as his father did.
2.According to the author, fish are most likely to be found _________.
A. in deep water on sunny days
B. in deep water on cloudy days
C. in shallow water under sunlight
D. in shallow water under waterside trees.
3.After entering the business world, the author found _________.
A. it easy to think like a customer
B. his father’s fishing advice inspiring
C. his first boss’s sales ideas reasonable
D. it difficult to sell services to poor people
4.This passage most likely comes from _________.
A. a fishing guide
B. a popular sales book
C. a novel on childhood
D. a millionaire’s biography(自傳)

Hotel rooms come in a variety of styles and price ranges. Despite differences m decoration and price, one thing most hotels have in common is a set of rules. Failure to obey these rules can result in fees or fines to cover hotel room damages, removal from the hotel or possibly even arrest.
Smoking
Some hotels are completely non-smoking. Some hotels designate smoking and non-smoking rooms. If you smoke in a non-smoking room, you will likely be fined hundreds of dollars and possibly asked to leave.
Number of Guests
Most regular hotel rooms are designed for two adults. If you have more than two people staying in the room, the hotel will likely charge an additional fee for each extra guest, though some hotels let children stay free. Do not put more than four adults in the room unless the hotels policy permits that many people. Or you might be fined or removed from the hotel
Hotel Reservations Requirements
Most hotels require a major credit card to reserve the room. You can pay cash at the end of your stay, but do not be surprised if there is a temporary charge on your card for a few days after your stay. Most hotels authorize a security deposit on your card to cover any possible damages to the room. Once the hotel confirms that the room is undamaged and that you do not break any hotel policies, your security deposit will be refunded.
Breaking the Law
You cannot break the law in your hotel room, just as you cannot break the law in your own home or in public. Do not do drugs or commit any other criminal act in the hotel room. If you do, you will likely be arrested.
Noise
Most hotels have a noise policy you must obey. If you are being too loud you will usually get a warning. If the noise continues and more complaints are issued, you will likely be kicked out of the hotel, regardless of what time it is.
1.What is the main purpose of this passage?
A. To advertise the hotel rooms
B. To show some rules of hotel rooms
C. To warn the customers
D. To offer some tips of living in hotel rooms
2.You will NOT be asked to leave the hotel, if you .
A. make too much noise continually
B. smoke without permission
C. have one extra guest to stay
D. break the law
3.Why is there a temporary charge on your card for a few days after your stay?
A. Because the hotels may use the money to pay for possible damages caused by you.
B. Because the hotels want to confirm whether you have money.
C. Because the hotels need a major credit card to pay for the rent.
D. Because the hotels need to authorize a security deposit.

A culture's values can be mirrored by its humor.Humor has been evaluated by many great minds such as Thomas Hobbes, who,in"On Nature",disliked humor,"Laughter is nothing else but sudden glory arising from sudden thought of feeling far better than others."He thought humor to be a negative quality of human narrow-mindedness.
However,Mordechai Gordon,PhD of Education, insists,"Humor allows us to view the world from an angle that is amusing rather than serious."I agree with Gordon.Learning to look at the world through humor is important.
In the United States, every four years an election occurs.Without humor as a way to express their feelings, how would Americans be willing to support the election?Television shows like "The Daily Show" have become important parts of American culture. They are mothering the masses by unconsciously inputting politics into our mouths. They make politics fun.
Of course, politics is only one type of humor.Social humor helps people through the twists and turns of the human condition.American pop culture promotes an unhealthy self image. On the topic of self-image,Hari Kondabolu stands out.He has a joke about the popular musical group "The Pussycat Dolls",describing their hit song "Don't Cha" as a negative representation of women. He points out an obvious offence in American culture.
A study from Loyola University of Maryland has shown that humor is one determining factor for selecting a mating partner.Amongst other things, mates look for an outstanding funny bone in a potential partner.
Of course, humor is not always used for good purposes.Humor can be linked to vulgarity(粗俗)and racism, but, like everything else,it has potential to unite human beings by allowing us to laugh at ourselves, our failures and our connection with one another.
Though life may seem tough and depressing at times, all I have to do is look in the mirror at my increased wrinkles(皺紋)to know that there is a comedy out there that even Chaplin wasn't aware of.
With that in mind, remember to laugh with humanity and sometimes at humanity.
1.Hobbes believes that humor_______.
A. resulted in narrow-mindedness of human beings
B. was only a way to laugh at others to make oneself feel better
C. had the power to mirror personal glory and national values
D. was for people to view the world from another angle
2.What is the author's attitude towards political humor?
A. Worried B. Disappointed
C. Curious D. Appreciative
3.The fourth paragraph is developed mainly______.
A. by process B. by example
C. by comparison D. by classification
4.What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A. Chaplin wasn't aware of being laughed at
B. The author feels helpless and sad about getting older
C. Never be the one who laughs at other people
D. The author is determined to face life with a sense of humor.

During an earthquake, you should know what to do. If the earthquake strikes while you’re inside a house, you should lie on the floor under a strong table or other furniture. If there is no furniture, you can cover your head with your arms and keep still in the corner of the room. You should keep away from windows, glass walls, or anything that can fall.
If you are in bed, hold firmly onto your bed and make use of a pillow to safeguard your head. You may use a doorway but only when it is close to you. It should also be considered whether it is strong enough to deal with the load.
If you are running out, do not use lifts, even if they work. Electricity may go out at any time. Many injuries happen when people try to rush out. This means you ought to stay in your house or perhaps wherever you are.
When you stay outdoors, you should stay far from buildings, power wires or lights. You should be in the open until the quake stops. Remember that many earthquake deaths outside the house come from falling-apart walls, flying glass and other falling things.
If an earthquake strikes and you are driving, you should pull up to the side of the highway and stop as quickly as possible. You ought not to stop under trees, buildings or energy wires. Don’t stop in the middle of the street as it could trouble others.
When trapped, you shouldn’t move. Your mouth should be covered with a piece of clothing or a handkerchief. This is because it is possible for you to breathe in some dust. Do not shout whenever possible. You should only shout in the end to get help from rescuers.
1.What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A. To tell us the dangers of an earthquake.
B. To tell us what to do before an earthquake.

A. lie still on the floor

C. stay in the center of the room
