The Greens live in a small village（村莊）. They    1   one child, Mike. He is twenty. He works in the village, but he    2   like to work in the village. Then he   3   a job in the town. It is quite    4  the village. Mike likes the job very much, but his parents aren’t happy about this.
“ Mike, you must     5  back to work in the village and live with us.” Mrs Green says one day. “ There isn’t     6  good work for me here, Mother,” says Mike. Mike goes to work in the town and    7  there. After a few days, Mrs Green is very angry（生氣的）.
She gets     8    a bus and goes to Mike’s house in the town. “ Mike,” she says to him, “    9   do you never call （從不打電話）us?” “ But, Mother, you don’t have a   10 ,” Mike says, “No, I don’t,” she says, “ But you have one.”

The story tell us about the British writer, Richard Savage. He was once living in London with   1  money in his pockets. In order to get some food and clothes, he wrote the story of his life and managed to have it published. But not many copies of his books were   2  in the shops, and he was still living a hard life. Because of anxiety(憂慮)and malnutrition(營養(yǎng)不良)， he became very weak and before long he fell  3 , and a doctor was sent for. The doctor was not rich enough, but was  4  literature. He tried his best to cure Savage of his illness and a week later Savage was out of danger. When he finally recovered(重新獲得) his  5 , the doctor sent a bill to Savage for his  6  , but poor Savage had no money to pay it. The doctor waited for a month and sent another bill. Receiving no money again, the doctor went to Savage himself.
"You know you owe(欠) your life to me," said the doctor, "and I should  7 some thankfulness from you."
"I agree," said the writer, " you've done a great favour(恩惠) for me and if I'm not ungrateful for your kindness, I'll damage(損壞) my life to you."
With these words he handed the doctor two copies of The Life of Richard Savage.

Five years later Savage called on the doctor to pay his bill, only to find that the doctor had already passed away .

With a hat by his feet，a blind boy sat on the steps of a building. He held up a sign which said，" I ' m blind, please help. "
Only a few people put    1   in the hat. A man was walking by. He    2   some coins into the hat. He then turned the sign    3  . wrote some words, put the sign back and left.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people   4   to give money to the blind boy.　　That afternoon the man came to see    5  things were. The boy recognized his footsteps (腳步聲) and asked, "Were you the one who    6  my sign this morning? What did you write?"

Dogs are people's friends. They will do anything their masters (主人) ask them to do and they do their duty very well.
Curly is my black dog. He is big and strong. He is strong enough to carry me on his    1 . He likes running and playing with me. He likes to    2  my father around in the fields, too.

I did very badly at school. My headmaster thought I was  1 and when I was 14 he said, “You’re never going to be   2  but a failure.”

Later, her father died, and her mother was sick   12    so many years that their money was all gone. They sold the house, and move here to get work to do.
George told his parents    13   . They decided to help her. More and more people in the   14   gave Jennie friendly smiles when they passed by her house. She was greatly cheered up.
A few months later, Jennie and her mother    15   a flower shop. People could always see Jennie sitting in the shop, having a lovely smile on her face.
