Seventeen pre-school kids graduated on Wednesday from a special school program. All of them had cancer.
The kids wore white caps and white gowns (長袍) on graduation day. The ceremony was held at the Morgan Center in Hicksville.
“This is home,” said Fran Hirst, whose son, Bradley, suffered from leukemia (白血病).
Like his classmates, Bradley couldn’t attend regular schools. “He can’t go to school. He can’t go to malls. This is all he has,” said Hirst.
The Morgan Center provides a safe environment for these kids. “We give them friends and experiences and a happy place to go,” said Nancy Zuch.
Zuch and her husband, Rod, started the Morgan Center after their own daughter, Morgan, was diagnosed (診斷) with cancer in 2000.
Now cancer-free, Morgan, 16, handed the new graduates special medals (獎牌).“It’s such an amazing feeling, because I couldn’t have these experiences,” Morgan said.
On graduation day, the difficulties of a long year were replaced by smiles and cheers.
Bradley threw his graduation cap in the air just weeks after three months in the hospital for treatment. His mother said the chance to return to the Morgan Center kept Bradley going.
“Just to see your kid in normal surroundings, it’s everything,” said Hirst, as her son sat on the floor, playing with a dinosaur.

The size and shape of your ears show your character (性格)more than any other parts of the face. Other parts of the face change shape as we get older, but ears do not change their shape. They only change in size.
Reading people’s character from their ears is an old science. In very old times people thought that a person with big ears had a good and generous character. They thought that a person with pale (nearly white), small ears was dangerous. They also thought that the shape of the ear showed whether(是否)a person was musical or not. Today, too, many people believe that the size and the shape of the ear help you know if a person is musical.
Ears are all different, and each characteristic(特性)has a meaning. Next time when you look at a person, see if his ears are large or small. Look at the lobes ( the lowest part of the ear). Are they attached (連著) to the face? Ears that are always red mean a person may easily get angry, or he/she just has high blood pressure (高血壓). Ears that are always cold and pale mean a person has a nervous character. And a big inside hole of the ear means a person is musical.
1.In the old times people might ask for help from a person with____________.
A.red ears B.big ears C.small ears D.pale ears
2.The passage is mainly about ___________.
A.the size of our ears B.musical ears
C.ears which related to (與...有關(guān)) characters D.our faces and ears
3.We can guess Beethoven (貝多芬)may have __________________.

C.small ears D.ears with a big inside hole
4.If you are often late for school, you may find the ears of your teacher _________.
