14.What should you do if there's an earthquake at school? How can you protect yourself when you are caught in a stampede(踩踏)?March 25 this year provides you with a good chance to learn about safety.
This day is called the National Day of Education on the Safety of Elementary and Middle School Students(NDESEMSS)(全國中小學生安全教育日).The theme of the day this year is to give students more knowledge about safety and make sure their lives safe.
A survey done by the China Youth and Children Research Center showed that school accidents kill more elementary and middle school students than anything else. The main accidents come from stampedes, earthquakes, fires and sports injuries(傷害).
What can we do to keep ourselves safe?Staying calm(鎮(zhèn)靜)is the first and most important rule when facing accidents. But different accidents have different self-protection advice.
A stampede is possible anywhere. The larger a human crowd gets, the more likely stampedes become. When students around you begin to push, stand still and try to hold onto something,or stay in a comer until the crowd leaves. If you fall down in a moving crowd, cover your head with both hands.Lean to one side, curl up your body and bend your legs.
Earthquakes are common natural disasters(災難).When you feel the ground shake, drop down, take cover under a desk and hold on.You should stay indoors until the shaking stops. If you are outdoors, don't stay near buildings, trees or power lines.
When there's a fire, follow the teachers'instructions, leave the classroom quickly and use a piece of cloth to cover your mouth and nose so that you don't breathe in smoke.

1.An old carpenter was ready to retire.He told his employer (雇主) of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more relaxing life with his wife and children.He would miss the paycheck,but he needed to retire.They thought they could support themselves for the rest of their life.
The employer was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house.The carpenter said yes,but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work.He turned to bad workmanship and used poor building materials.
It was an unlucky way to end his working life.When the carpenter finished his work and the employer came to see the house,he handed the front door key to the carpenter."This is your house,"he said,"my gift to you."
What a shock!What a shame!If he had only known he was building his own house,he would have done it all so differently.Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.
So it is with us.We build our lives in a distracted (不專注的) way,willing to put up less than the best.At important points we do not give the job our best effort.Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built.If we had realized that,we would have done it differently.
It is the only life you will ever build.Even if you live it for only one day more,that day deserves to be lived with dignity (尊嚴).
The sentence on the wall reads,"Life is a do-it-yourself project."Who could say it more clearly?Your life today is the result of your attitudes and choices in the past.Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and choices you make today.

88.The old carpenter lived quite a rich life with his wife and children,didn't he?No,he didn't.
89.Why did the old carpenter want to retire?Because he wanted to live a more relaxing life with his wife and children.
90.What did the old carpenter's employer ask him to do before he retired?The employer asked him to build just one more house.
91.How did the carpenter do the job his employer asked him to do?He turned to bad workmanship and used poor materials
92.How did the carpenter feel when he realized that the last house he built was his home?
He felt greatly shocked and sorry for what he did.
93.What does the sentence on the wall mean?Your life today is the result of your attitudes and choices in the past.Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and choices you make today..
