A computer can get very hot when it works on a lot of programs. It can cost a lot to cool the computer. So some scientists want to know what would happen when if the heat from the computer could be used.

Large Internet companies such as Google and Microsoft have thousands of computers. As these computers deal with information, they produce lots of heat, so they need huge cooling systems. These systems send the heat into the air.

A company in the Netherlands thinks paying to make the computers work and then paying again to cool them are a waste of energy. So the company developed a special device—the e-Radiator.

Boaz Leupe, head of the company, says that e-Radiator works as a heating system and saves money. He explains that the energy is used twice—once to heat the home and once to cool the computer and that the users don't have to pay to cool their computers.

Five homeowners in the Netherlands are testing the heating system in their homes.

"We pay for the computer usage, so in that way, homeowners get heating for free." Boaz says.

Jan Visser is one of the homeowners. "If you use the computer more, the e-Radiator produces more heat," he says. "It cannot provide enough heat if you don't use your computer often." But he is ready to try it. It's a great help to his family.

The company says e-Radiators produce heat temperature of up to 55℃. It says the system could save its users about $ 440 a year.

2.What is the e-Radiator mainly used to do?

A.To help Google B.To provide heat. C.To heat the computer. D.To clean the computer.

If you lose 12 times in a row (連續(xù)地), will you just give up? Dale Carnegie, a pioneer in public speaking and self-development, kept trying. And he became famous by showing people how to be successful.

Carnegie was born into a poor family in the United States. The boy didn’t see a train until he was 12 years old. In his teens, he had to get up at 3 am every day to milk cows for his family.

When Carnegie first entered college, he felt upset because of his worn-out clothes and common looks. His mother encouraged him, “Why not try to be better in other things instead of just dress and good looks?”

Carnegie tried to be more active in college. He joined the debate (辯論) team. But one after another, he lost 12 competitions. The young man was very disappointed with himself. He said later that he thought of killing himself after failing so many times. But soon Carnegie was seen practicing public speaking on the riverside. His hard work paid off at last. In 1906, Carnegie won a famous speech contest and became famous. “Believe that you will succeed, and you will,” he said.

In order to share his success, Carnegie opened schools and wrote books. His best-sellers include How to Win Friends and Influence People and How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. More than 50 million copies of his books have been translated into 38 languages. They are still helping people on the road to success.
